ABC/RANDY HOLMES(NEW YORK) — Brooklyn-born funnyman Jimmy Kimmel braved Hurricane Sandy to bring his show to the borough that bore him, and on Tuesday night, the first installment of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! to tape at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Harvey Theater aired.

Kimmel welcomed the hometown audience saying, “I was born in Bay Ridge, I grew up in Mill Basin, and tonight I have returned to save my people from the storm.”

In a pre-taped segment, Kimmel returned to his old neighborhood, reunited with his then-best friend, confronted — then reconciled with — their former bully, and ate a family meal with the folks who live at his old house.

The storm forced Kimmel to cancel Monday’s scheduled taping, though his original guest lineup remained unchanged.

In studio, Kimmel welcomed Howard Stern, Tracy Morgan, and and musical guest Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.
