Michael Richards to Return to TV with Kirstie Alley, Rhea Perlman
Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Michael Richards has landed his first regular TV gig in more than a decade. The Seinfeld star will co-star opposite Kirstie Alley and Rhea Perlman in the TV Land pilot Giant Baby, according to Deadline.
He’ll play the limo driver of Alley’s character, Madison “Maddie” Banks, a Broadway star whose long-lost son turns up on her doorstep after his adopted mother dies. Perlman will play Maddie’s best friend and assistant.
Richards, 63, earned three Emmys during his nine seasons on Seinfeld as Kramer. He starred in the short-lived 2000 NBC series The Michael Richards Show and appeared with his Seinfeld cast mates on multiple episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2009.
Richards’ career was derailed in 2006 after he was filmed shouting the N-word and a host of expletives during a standup set at the Laugh Factory. He later apologized on Late Show With David Letterman.
“I got heckled and took it badly and went into a rage,” he said. “I am not a racist! That’s what’s so insane about this. For me to be on stage, and flip out and say this stuff, I’m deeply, deeply sorry.”
