Report: Dan Marino Admits to Affair and Daughter Out of Wedlock
Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Former Miami Dolphins quarterback and current CBS Sports analyst Dan Marino had a child out of wedlock with a woman who was a production assistant at the network, and paid her millions of dollars to keep the affair and baby under wraps, The New York Post reports.
According to the newspaper, the woman is Donna Savattere, and the daughter she had with Marino is named Chloe. The child was born in June 2005.
Marino, who is married, released a written statement to the Post that said, “This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then. We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved.”
Release of the statement Wednesday came on the same day as Marino’s 28th wedding anniversary with his wife, Claire. The couple has six children — four sons and two adopted daughters.
Marino, 51, insisted to the Post that his marriage is still strong despite the revelation.
His daughter with Savattere was born two months before Marino was inducted into the NFL’s Hall of Fame. Marino is considered one of the best quarterbacks who ever played the game.
According to Post sources, Marino agreed to pay Savattere millions of dollars to take care of their child, and she moved from her CBS job in Manhattan to Texas.
She has since returned to New York City and was married in 2009.
Marino is still scheduled to be part of CBS’ Super Bowl Today telecast in the run-up to the big game Sunday night between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers.
