ABC/RON TOM(NEW YORK) — After suffering a concussion and coming down with the chicken pox in the same week, it’s no wonder that Barbara Walters still isn’t ready to come back to ABC’s The View.  The veteran ABC journalist called into the daytime talk show on Wednesday to explain why she’ll be out for the next three weeks.

“I have been a little weak.  I am not in any pain.  I’m not scratching too much,” the 83-year-old said.  “I’m not itching away.”

“But that does not mean that I don’t listen to every single word!” Walters added.

Walters fainted and fell on a stair at the British ambassador’s residence over Inauguration weekend and out of an abundance of caution, was taken to the hospital to be examined by doctors.  There, she discovered she had contracted chicken pox, which was what had caused her to faint.

Walters was transferred to a New York hospital and was later released.
