French Embassy in Libya Hit by Car Bomb

MAHMUD TURKIA/AFP/Getty Images(TRIPOLI, Libya) — A car bombing outside the French embassy in Libya Tuesday has left two French guards injured.

The BBC reports the morning blast in Tripoli caused extensive damage to the building and perimeter wall.  Nearby homes and cars were also affected.

One of the two guards hurt was severely wounded, according to the BBC; the other sustained lesser injuries. Some residents were also said to have been injured.

In a statement, French President Francois Hollande denounced the attack and said it was aimed at all the countries in the international community that are fighting terrorism.

Hollande said he expects Libyan authorities to “shed the fullest light on this unacceptable act, so that the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice.”

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the bombing.
