The civil rights leader, who has been at a Pretoria hospital for over a month, was visited again on Thursday by South African President Jacob Zuma. In a statement after the visit, Zuma’s office said Mandela “continues to respond to treatment, and is still in a critical but stable condition.”
“We are encouraged that Madiba [as Mandela is affectionately known] is responding to treatment and urge the public to continue providing support and showering him with love which gives him and the family strength,” Zuma said after visiting Mandela on Wednesday.
Mandela, 94, was admitted to Mediclinic Heart Hospital on June 8 for a recurring lung infection. The Nobel Peace Prize winner has been hospitalized four times since last December.
He will turn 95 on July 18.
