Dell Owners Complain Laptops Smell Like Cat Urine
Jin Lee/Bloomberg via Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Dell has been forced to change a manufacturing process that left its brand-new laptops smelling like cat pee, according to a growing number of angry customers.
According to the computer company’s support forums, Dell has acknowledged customer complaints that “cat urine” odors were mysteriously emanating from brand new machines. And while the company reported the smell is “not at all [a] health hazard,” it’s offering to replace the stinky “palm rest assembly” on its malodorous machines.
The company became aware of the issue in June, after a user posted a complaint about his new Latitude laptop on the company’s forum.
“[T]he machine is great, but it smells as if it was assembled near a tomcat’s litter box,” said user calling himself three west. “It is truly awful!”
Soon, other customers began chiming in, too, with their own catty criticisms.
“I thought for sure one of my cats sprayed it,” said another. “It’s embarrassing taking it to clients because it smells so bad.”
