GOP Piles on Alarming Health Care Figures
ABC News(WASHINGTON) — Reaction by Republicans Wednesday to the dismal number of the enrollees in the Affordable Care Act was swift and predictably brutal.
With news from the administration that just over 106,000 Americans picked a health insurance plan, House Speaker John Boehner remarked, “It is a rolling calamity that must be scrapped.”
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell commented that the numbers will be “cold comfort for the millions who’ve lost the coverage they liked and the millions more facing higher premiums.”
Michigan Congressman Dave Camp, chair of House Ways and Means Committee, said that the ACA would need 68,000 enrollees daily to meet its year-end goal. But it “isn’t even designed to handle that much traffic and is currently capable of only handling less than half that much.”
Back in the Senate, Marco Rubio of Florida mused that the law is “deeply flawed and ultimately cannot be fixed.”
Meanwhile, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas tweeted how more people showed up for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game in Cowboys Stadium than enrolled for a government insurance plan.
