House Dems Demand Obama Take Action on Affordable Care Act
iStock/Thinkstock(WASHINGTON) — In spite of White House assurances that problems with the HealthCare.gov website will soon be rectified, House Democrats want President Obama to immediately restore his promise that Americans who are happy with their health insurance plans can keep them.
Democratic lawmakers reportedly had heated words Wednesday with senior administration officials about the disastrous rollout of the health care exchange, saying many of their constituents are unhappy after receiving cancellations of their current medical plans.
House Republicans will bring the Keep Your Health Plan Act to the floor Friday and some Democrats are threatening to cross party lines to vote for the measure even though it would possibly raise premiums and hurt the poorest Americans in need of medical coverage.
What Democrats want from the president is a solution before the vote that would allow people to hold on to plans they regard as more affordable compared to what the government is offering.
Failing that, they want the White House to propose a legislative alternative to the bill that seems to be gaining steam in the House and would greatly embarrass the president if there’s overwhelming bipartisan support.
