Dave M. Benett/WireImage(LOS ANGELES) — We may not know what caused Paul Walker’s fatal car crash for another three months.

A Los Angeles detective tells The Hollywood Reporter the cause of the accident may not be determined until then, as authorities continue to investigate.

“To the extent that we can, we need to rule out mechanical failure.  But the car is a mess,” detective Jeff Maag says.

Investigators have said speed was a factor in the fiery crash.

The Fast and the Furious actor, as well as his friend Roger Rodas, died when their Porsche struck a pole in Valencia, Calif., on Nov. 30.

According to E! News, Walker’s remains will be cremated and interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills, where a private service will be held this weekend.
