On Wednesday morning, La Porte County Regional 911 received a call from the 911 Dispatch Center in St. Joseph County, reporting that they were receiving text messages from a person reporting that they had been kidnapped and were being held against their will at gunpoint. The person was able to text a vehicle description and a location at they traveled west on US 20 in La Porte County. Sheriff’s patrol deputies were alerted to the complaint. La Porte County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Wright observed the suspect vehicle near the intersection of US 20 and SR 39 and began to follow and monitor the suspect vehicle while other units responded for assistance. When the suspect vehicle reached the intersection of US 20 and US 35 a felony traffic was initiated. The victim was safely removed from the vehicle and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. La Porte County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to determine that the incident began in the city of South Bend, Indiana. Investigators from the South Bend Police Department came to La Porte County to gather suspect information and conduct interviews. Subsequently the suspect was taken into custody by the South Bend Police Detectives; criminal charges will be forthcoming in Saint Joseph County.
