Road Projects

INDOT will close State Road 8, a half mile east of CR 500 E, on Monday, April 25th while crews will be replacing a culvert, weather permitting. This project is happening in part with the resurfacing that is already underway in that area. Lane restrictions will continue on State Road 8 between Kouts and LaCrosse, April 26th through the end of June to complete resurfacing. Traffic will be detoured during the project.

 

In the Porter/Burns Harbor area, expect delays on US 20 between Beam and Wagner with roadwork set up in both directions.

 

On I-94 in both directions between the Indiana Toll Road and Rt 49 expect delays during an ongoing road construction project.

 

In Valparaiso INDOT is alerting drivers of potential delays on State Road 49, between mile marker 30 and mile marker 31, at the bridge over State Road 2 in Valparaiso. Crews will restrict traffic to one lane as they rehabilitate both sides of the bridge, through the middle of July. Drivers should be prepared for slower than normal traffic near and at the work zone and expect potential delays.

 

INDOT has set up lane closures on U.S. 20 between, SR 249 and SR 149 now through the end of June. These lane closures are necessary for crews to mill and resurface U.S. 20 in that area. During the project, one eastbound lane and one westbound lane will remain open to traffic in both directions. Motorists should be prepared to slow down and stay alert to the shifting traffic pattern

 

There’s roadwork on the Indiana Toll Road Work for the next two years which will affect 70 miles of roadways including 53 bridges from Lake Station to Elkhart. ****** Known as the 80/90 PUSH (Pavement Upgrade for a Superior Highway) Project, the two-year reconstruction project will start at Milepost 20 in Lake Station through Milepost 30 near SR 49/Calumet Avenue. Work zones will also occur from Milepost 43 to Milepost 51 in the LaPorte area. The full project involves the rehabilitation of 73 miles of pavement, including shoulders and ramps as needed; the rehabilitation of 53 bridges; and the installation of a fiber optic cable to support Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The majority of the work will be completed one lane at a time, allowing the other lane to remain open to traffic to minimize traffic disruptions and travel delays.******************

 

In the Michigan City/Westville area watch for an INDOT closure on the I-94 eastbound exit 34A ramp and the U.S. 421 northbound to I-94 eastbound ramp, running through the end of May. Detour signs posted.

 

La Porte/South Bend Area watch for an INDOT closure on the east and westbound driving lane of I-94, between the U.S. 20/35 Interchange and mile marker 41. This project will be going through the end of October. *************Crews will rehabilitate the I-94 bridge at that location that runs over the NICTD Railroad. During the project, traffic will be reduced to two lanes on both the east and westbound side of I-94. Drivers should be prepared to slow down at this location and be alert to shifting traffic patterns.

 

Watch for a moving construction project on State Road 2 between CR W 650 S in Hebron and U.S. 30 near Valparaiso in Porter County, through the beginning of June. Crews will be installing rumble strips and stripes to the edge and centerline of State Road 2.**********During the project, flaggers will direct traffic. Drivers should be prepared to stop at work site, expect delays and stay alert to the shifting traffic patterns.

 

More Roadwork with Phase Two of the U.S. 31/20 Bypass bridge rehabilitation project near the South Bend Airport. This project closes off two ramps and lanes near the U.S. 31/20 Bypass as crews rehabilitate the Bypass bridge over U.S. 20. Ramp closures will reopen by the middle of October. Traffic will be detoured around the ramp closures by utilizing the interchanges at the U.S. 31/20 Bypass and Nimtz Road and the U.S. 31/20 Bypass and State Road 2.
