The Chanute Prize
The Society of Innovators for Northwest Indiana delivered the traveling trophy for the Chanute Prize – a prestigious award given to the hospital for creating a fair and just culture, where colleagues use the tools of LEAN Six Sigma to focus on processes rather than pointing fingers. La Porte Hospital has successfully implemented at least 40 initiatives using Rapid Improvement Events and other LEAN tools, with an eye on improved and sustained patient safety, better quality of care, and lower cost of care. Patients spend less time in surgery, go home faster, are less likely to be readmitted, spend less time in waiting rooms, have fewer infections, and have access to new cash options for certain services, which saves them money.
