The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred Monday Morning. Emergency responders were dispatched to the 5500 west block of Johnson Road, just south of the entrance of the Jongkind Park subdivision, for the crash at approximately 6:45 AM. Upon arrival of patrol deputies they found the victim laying alongside of the roadway. The victim stated that he had been struck by a vehicle as he was walking northbound on Johnson Road. The victim could only give a vague description of the suspect vehicle which was a white passenger car. The victim, who is 25-years old and a Michigan City resident, was transported by La Porte County Emergency Medical Service to La Porte Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone that may have been in the area at the time or may have witnessed the pedestrian being struck to call 219.326.7700 with information. It is important to note that Johnson Road is a heavily traveled road as it serves as the main thoroughfare between La Porte and Michigan City. Due to construction on US 35, traffic this week is being detoured onto Johnson Road which has doubled the amount of vehicles traveling this county road. The Sheriff’s Office is asking for drivers to exercise more caution and to obey all traffic laws when traveling Johnson Road.
