Michigan City Police Department Investigation And Arrest
Between February 20th and April 7th, at least ten businesses in the area, including Michigan City, LaPorte, and The Pines, were broken into in a “smash and grab” style burglary. Suspects were developed and the investigation quickly picked up in pace. On April 8th, 2016, Mr. Charles Rogers was arrested for his role in these burglaries and was charged with 3 counts of Burglary Level 5 Felony and one (1) count of Attempted Burglary Level 5 Felony. On June 20th, Mr. Robert Granzo was arrested for his role in these burglaries and was charged with five counts of Aiding, Inducing, or Causing Burglary Level 5 Felony. On May 17th, a Pizza Store was broken into in a similar fashion to the above burglaries. In viewing video footage and an arrest shortly after the burglary, Mr. Robert Granzo was arrested and charged with the Burglary Level 5 Felony for this business. With the arrests of Mr. Granzo and Mr. Rogers, there have been no additional business burglaries in Michigan City. Between the two of them, they have nine charges of Burglary and the investigation is still on-going and more charges are possible. A burglary occurred in the 200 block of Hopkins Street, where a residential garage was broken into. This occurred during the week on May 21st to May 28th. On May 31st, 2016 in was assigned to the detective bureau and a neighborhood canvas was conducted and possible suspects were named. On June 3rd, an unrelated arrest warrant for one of those named parties was served. While in the house, detectives located items of interest, including an item stolen from the garage. A search of the house was conducted and a riding lawn mower, tools, and a RV battery were recovered. Mr. Michael Venice was arrested and charged with one count of Burglary Level 5 Felony after the search. Since the arrest, detectives have been able to locate and recover the other stolen riding lawn mower.
