Indiana Toll Road 80/90 PUSH project update
On the Indiana Toll Road The next set of PUSH lane restrictions started Wednesday with lane closures at Mileposts 55-62 (LaPorte County) and MP 73-83 (South Bend/Mishawaka). Work in these sections will last four weeks. As part of the 80/90 PUSH project, a $200 million investment that will rehabilitate and upgrade the pavement and bridges from Lake Station to Elkhart, structure repairs are scheduled for the Lake Station interchange (Exit 21), which connects the Indiana Toll Road with I-80/94. To complete this work prior to the winter season, the Lake Station eastbound and westbound exit ramps will be closed beginning Monday, July 11, in order for crews to work on the Structure. These ramps connect exiting ITR traffic to either direction of I-80/94. The closure will last until mid-November. Exit 17 remains a free exit just as Exit 21. Traffic coming from I-80/94 will still be able to enter the ITR from either direction. The Portage travel plazas (Milepost 22 east- and westbound) will fully close to begin the
demolition and rebuilding of those locations. The construction should take four to five months, with a tentative re-opening planned for early 2017. While the Portage travel plazas are under construction, tractor-trailer parking WILL be allowed in designated areas at those locations (once the construction area has been secured, near July 8). Outside of truck parking, there will be no facilities available at the Portage travel plazas no restrooms, no fuel, no food – and access will be prohibited to the general public as a matter of public safety.
