NIPSCO Announces Upcoming Modernization Plans
In Lake County, NIPSCO recently announced plans to begin work on installing a new natural gas line through the communities of Crown Point, Schererville and Merrillville. This project is just one of the existing and future investments planned as part of the company’s long-term effort to modernize the gas and electric infrastructure across its entire service area. Construction has begun to install 4.1 miles of a new underground natural gas transmission line. This new improvement will take place on Chase St. to Burr St. along 91st Ave. and continue south along NIPSCO’s electric corridors to State Road 231. Construction is expected to run through the end of September. As part of this project, a 1500 foot section of the Erie Lackawanna Bike Trail will be temporarily closed from July 25 through September 27. The bike path closure will take place near the Lake County Government Center. NIPSCO reminds customers who travel near construction areas to please exercise caution to ensure personal safety and the safety of construction crews working on this project For more information on NIPSCO’s modernization efforts, visit NIPSCO.com/future.
