Come See “Metropolis”

A free movie will be shown in the Barker Mansion gardens on July 29 at 8 pm. Guests will view “Metropolis” which is hailed as the most famous and influential silent film ever created. The film, produced in 1927, takes place in the year 2026. The plot depicts a German population divided between workers who must live in the dark underground and the rich who enjoy a futuristic city of splendor, complete with robots. “Metropolis” is suitable for ages 13 and up. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks to enjoy during the movie. The mansion will have candy for sale which was popular, or invented, during Catherine Barker’s era. Following the two-hour film, Heritage Interpreter T.J. Kalin will give a short talk on the film’s influence for those who wish to participate. Reservations are not necessary for this event.
