Two farms in LaPorte County were recognized on Friday with Hoosier Homestead awards for 100 years or more of family farm ownership, according to State Rep. Tom Dermody. The Hews Farm has been in operation since 1864 and received the Hoosier Homestead Sesquicentennial Award. The Bernard and Barbara Hannon Farm has been in operation since 1914 and received the Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award. Two award ceremonies are held each year, in the spring and summer, to commemorate the achievements of farmers across the state.
