In the Kouts area early Wednesday morning, Porter County Sheriff’s Officers responded to the 400 East block of CR 1000 South of Pleasant Township, for a reported home invasion that just occurred. The 39 year old male homeowner, home alone at the time, was reportedly shot in the leg 3 times, handcuffed, and forced to open a safe which contained an unknown amount of money. The suspects who were described as 2 male whites wearing face masks, bandanas, and gloves broke into the residence to find the homeowner asleep on the couch and forced him outside to a barn. The homeowner’s 36 year old girlfriend arrived home a short time later with 4 children to find the home in disarray and blood on the garage floor and interrupted the incident. She subsequently was grabbed by one of the men at gunpoint and taken to the barn where she observed her boyfriend handcuffed and bleeding. The two male white suspects ultimately made entry into the safe, stole an undetermined amount of cash and fled the area. No vehicle was initially observed by the homeowner or his girlfriend, however a vehicle was heard leaving the scene in an unknown direction. The homeowner had also reported a previous Burglary that occurred sometime over the weekend while out of town. The girlfriend and children were unharmed. The homeowner was transported to St. Anthony’s in Crown Point where he was being treated for his injuries.
