Explosion in New Jersey Near Site for 5k Race
iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — An explosive device detonated in New Jersey’s Seaside Park Saturday morning as thousands of people were getting ready to run a 5k charity race, officials said.
Police are investigating reports of the presence at least one other device in the popular beach town, according to a spokesperson from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
The device exploded in a garbage can at approximately 9:35 a.m. ET along the route of the Semper Five race scheduled for Saturday morning. But the start of the race was postponed, which prevented a large number of runners in the area.
There were no reported injuries or damages to surrounding structures. The area is on lockdown as authorities investigate and bomb dogs search the area for additional devices, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
