Valpo PD investigating shots fired case

Valparaiso Police responded to a report of gunshots being fired at the 1200 block of Chicago St. Police arrived and observed signs of a disturbance occurring inside the apartment. Further investigation determined that a disturbance between subjects resulted in one of them leaving the apartment and retrieving a handgun. The male juvenile returned a short time later with a gun. He then re-entered the apartment and fired the gun inside the apartment. He then fled the area prior to police arriving. Police identified the 16 year through witnesses at the scene and police later located the subject at his residence in Valparaiso. The 16 year old was arrested and charged with Criminal Recklessness with a Handgun and Carrying a Handgun without a Permit. He was held at the Porter County Juvenile Detention Center. Police continue to investigate the incident and are requesting assistance from the public.
