Update on US 20 crash
On Friday at 7:01 AM, Sheriff’s deputies from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office along with firefighters from the Kankakee Township Fire Department and the La Porte County Emergency Medical Service responded to an injury crash on US 20 at CR 300 E. This is approximately one mile west of the community of Rolling Prairie. First responding units found that the crash involved a passenger car and a semi tractor-trailer. The three occupants of the passenger car were killed in the crash; the driver of the semi was not injured. First arriving units found that two vehicles were involved; a gray 2008 Pontiac G6 and a white 1992 Volvo. Preliminary investigation revealed that the Pontiac was traveling west on US 20, believed to be in the passing lane, when the vehicle suddenly lost control and began to slide sideways into the eastbound lanes of the highway. The Pontiac’s passenger side struck the front of the eastbound semi tractor-trailer. All three occupants of the Pontiac were killed upon impact. The driver of the semi was not injured. The Semi driver was a 41 year old from Goshen Indiana.The driver of the passenger car was 22 year old Judith Peachey, of Goshen. The front seat passenger was Rosalie Koehn from Greensburg, Kansas. Koehn’s age is unknown but believed to have been in her teens. The rear seat passenger was 17 year old Lani Nace from Greensburg, Kansas. Alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as causing factors in the crash. The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to the scene to assist in documenting and reconstructing the crash. At the time of this release, exactly what caused the westbound Pontiac to lose control has not been determined. At the time of the crash the roads were slushed covered and slick. La Porte County Coroner Robert Cutler ruled the manner of death in all three victims to be massive blunt force trauma. The families of all of the victims were notified.
