On Thursday, April 13th, Porter County Sheriff’s Detectives filed three Level 3 Felony charges against 47 year old Curtis R. Jones of Crown Point. On Friday, April 14th, Porter County Sheriff’s Office Detectives received information that Jones had left the area and was staying in Mokena, Illinois with his new girlfriend. Porter County Detectives contacted the Mokena Police Department who assisted with locating Jones, who was then taken into custody without incident and transported to Will County Jail where he is awaiting extradition. The charges and arrest stem from an incident that took place at Jones’ residence in rural Porter Township on July 24th, 2016. Jones’ then 7 month old son was transported to a Hobart Hospital and later transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago when he showed signs of neurological damage and swelling of the brain. During the course of this extensive investigation and with medical examinations performed by the doctors at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, accidental head trauma and preexisting medical conditions were ruled out. Jones was a former Porter County Sheriff’s Officer hired in 1996 by then Sheriff Larry Dembinski and resigned for undisclosed reasons in 2005 during Sheriff David Reynolds second term.
