Gypsy moth treatment update
The first round of aerial treatments to slow the spread of gypsy moths in Fulton, Kosciusko, Marshall, Porter and Tippecanoe counties was completed on Tuesday. The second round of treatments, which involves using mating disruption to control gypsy moths, is expected to begin the third week of June in Fulton, Kosciusko, Miami, Porter, and Wabash counties. The mating-disruption process falsely indicates an abundance of female moths in the area. The male moths, being misled, fail to mate, and no offspring are produced to eat the tree leaves the next year. Detailed maps of the treatment sites are at gypsymoth.IN.gov.
