Gary woman arrested for theft

On Monday, Indiana State Police arrested 46 year old Ruth A. Batey, of Gary for felony theft. This investigation by Detective Gary Runde, began in January 2017, when the Indiana State Police was asked by Gary Police Department to investigate this case involving theft of monies by Batey from two Gary Police employees. Batey allegedly cashed a check for $80,000 that was intended for her clients and kept the proceeds. Batey was taken to Lake County Jail in Crown Point and charged with Level 5 Felony Theft. It was also discovered she had a civil warrant too. Batey was booked on a $20,000/$2,000 bond plus an additional $500 bond on the civil warrant.
