The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office and the La Porte County Drug Task Force are investigating three narcotics related overdoses that occurred during the weekend, two of which left people dead. All three cases occurred in southern La Porte County. The three cases are listed below in chronological order. Investigators with the drug task force are exploring leads in all three cases and believe that at least two of the cases may be connected. All three are believed to be opiate related however investigators are waiting for toxicology results before making an official determination.

* Mark Laskarin, 30, was found unresponsive in a bedroom of a residence in the 900 block of Second Street in Union Mills, Indiana at approximately 10:00 AM Saturday August 5th. Mark Laskarin was pronounced dead at the scene.

* Annette Leden, 36, was found unresponsive in a vehicle and taken to a home in the 300 block of Legion Road in Wanatah, Indiana at approximately 10:00 PM Saturday August 5th. La Porte County Sheriff John Boyd has expressed frustration at having such a deadly weekend in the county… “our narcotics investigators are working diligently to reduce the amount of drugs flowing into La Porte County and they have had considerable success. Despite their efforts it is frustrating when we see people losing their lives to the addictions they battle. We encourage others who face these same struggles will seek help at every opportunity.”
