New legislation to help reduce teen suicide
State Rep. Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) recently spoke about suicide prevention month and new legislation to help reduce teen suicide. Olthoff wants to remind Hoosiers about a new law passed earlier this year to help Indiana’s youth who may be thinking about self harm.
*The law requires training for school staff and health care providers, creates a state suicide prevention coordinator position, and requires schools to develop and implement policies on how to advise students and staff on suicide prevention programs. *If you or someone you know needs help call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
