Pence: ‘Las Vegas came face-to-face with pure evil’

Pence– alongside Second Lady Karen Pence, faith leaders, and elected officials– offered his condolences “to the families of these and all our fallen near and far” after he recited the names of some of the victims and anecdotes about their lives.
“We do mourn with those who mourn and grieve with those who grieve, but we do not grieve like those who have no hope,” he said at the Unity Prayer Walk. “Because heroes give us hope.”
The vice president did not directly mention the shooter, but he referred to his actions as “pure evil.”
“On Sunday night Las Vegas came face-to-face with pure evil,” Pence said. “But no evil, no act of violence will ever diminish the strength and goodness of the American people.”
After his remarks and speeches from other officials, doves were released by organizers on the City Hall plaza to commemorate each of the victims of the mass shooting.
