On Wednesday evening, law enforcement officers from across La Porte County participated in “Operation Boo”. This is the fourth time that it has been conducted and it is an effort to check the compliance of people that are on the county’s sex offender registry.  A total of 88 registered sex offenders were targeted; police officers only found two that were non-compliant.

26 police officers from the sheriff’s office, La Porte and Michigan City police, and the United States Marshal’s Service made up the nine teams that began at 7:30 PM (CST). Most of the compliance checks were completed by 11:00 PM (CST). Detectives from the sheriff’s office will be assigned to follow up on those that were found to be in violation of the registry; those cases will be reviewed by the county prosecutor’s office for the potential of criminal charges to be filed.
