"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" wins the weekend box office battle with $52.6 million

Disney(LOS ANGELES) — Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi was tops at the box office for the third straight week, raking in an estimated $52.6 million between Friday and Sunday and an estimated $68.4 million over the four-day weekend. ABC, like Lucasfilm, is owned by Disney.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle wasn’t far behind, grabbing second place with an estimated $50.3 million over the three-day weekend and $66.5 million through New Year’s Day.

Taking third place was Pitch Perfect 3, the final chapter in the singing comedy franchise, with an estimated $16.8 million haul over the three-day and $22.7 million over the four-day.

The Greatest Showman bowed in fourth place with an estimated $15.5 million through Sunday and $20.7 million over the four-day.

The animated feature Ferdinand rounded out the top five with an estimated $11.4 million over the three-day weekend and $14.6 million through New Year’s Day.

Matt Damon was feeling the holiday blues, as his latest release Downsizing — finishing ninth — only managed to scrounge up an estimated $4.7 and $6.4 million through Sunday and New Year’s Day, respectively. This marks the third straight flop for Damon, whose other 2017 releases included the box office duds The Great Wall and Suburbicon.
