Haddish, who received the best-supporting actress award for Girls Trip, hit the stage with a cocktail in hand, aptly named the “Tiffany Toast” which she later renamed the “Tiffany-tini.”
“It’s delicious,” she said. I’ve had two and I really do feel like magic.”
Tiffany then embarked on a nearly eighteen-minute speech that ranged from questioning the many-armed Hindu goddess statue behind her — “All night I’ve been staring at this b****, I’m trying to figure out who is this b****?”” — to teasing fellow actor Michael B. Jordan, to addressing industry critics and the business itself.
“When I look her I feel like I’m looking at myself,” Tiffany continued about the statue. “She’s holding on to some seeds or a pine cone, which means she’s trying to produce or create, and that’s exactly what I’m trying to do. I’m not trying to get pregnant yet, Michael, but I’m working on it, B. Jordan.”
Taking a moment to reflect on the critics and industry, Tiffany also offered her thoughts on what she learned.
“I’m thankful for the critics. I’m learning a lot about you guys,” she said. “The only critics I knew before this were Siskel and Ebert and when they passed I was like, ‘Oh well.’”
In regard to the business, Tiffany says it’s all about “how you feel, what you put out to the world, and how you make other people feel.”
The awards weren’t televised, but one person who was there recorded it and posted Tiffany’s speech to Facebook.
