Governor Eric Holcomb, joined executives of the St. Joseph County Airport Authority Thursday to announce that American Airlines will restart operations at South Bend International Airport (SBN), adding two new nonstop flights to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). A key part of Governor Holcomb’s Next Level Agenda, expanding nonstop flight options will help increase the state’s connectivity to key national markets and enhance quality of place for Hoosiers. The flights, which will begin June 7, will offer twice-daily service to both Dallas/Fort Worth and Charlotte, which serve as American Airlines hubs. Tickets for both routes will go on sale Saturday, Jan. 22. Dallas/Forth Worth was identified as a critical link by local businesses in the surrounding areas as well as by the University of Notre Dame, which has more than 150 students from the Dallas/Fort Worth area and more than 2,300 alumni currently living there. The South Bend International Airport estimates that the two new routes will have a $20 million impact on the region’s economy. For more details check out the WIMS Facebook page.
