Report: James Franco will attend SAG Awards following sexual misconduct allegations
Photo by Justina Mintz/A24(LOS ANGELES) — After skipping last week’s Critics’ Choice Awards, The Disaster Artist director and star James Franco reportedly will be attending the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards on Sunday, a source tells Entertainment Tonight.
“James will still attend the SAG Awards because there is no reason not to,” explains the insider. “He will carry on supporting the cause and moving forward.”
Five women have previously come forward to accuse Franco of inappropriate or sexually exploitative behavior. Four were his acting students, while another claims he was her mentor.
Franco’s attorney has denied the women’s allegations.
The source tells ET, “James is in distress [because] this has been incredibly difficult to deal with and navigate, not because he feels guilty. He is navigating this situation and wants to ensure he is doing the right thing, supporting the movement and not undermining any women.”
The 39-year-old actor picked up a Critics’ Choice Award and a Golden Globe for his performance in The Disaster Artist. Franco plays Tommy Wiseau, famous — or infamous — for directing and starring in The Room, which has been called one of the worst movies of all time.
The 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards, hosted by Kristen Bell, will air live from Los Angeles Sunday at 8 p.m. on both on both TNT and TBS.
