Free Classes To Help Adults Earn Certifications Being Offered at The LaPorte County Adult Education Program
The LaPorte County Adult Education program, housed at the A. K. Smith Career Center (817 Lafayette Street, Michigan City), will offer a new series of free classes for adults, to help them earn certifications in the hospitality industry or as an education paraprofessional. The classes, which will begin February 13, will be offered for 14 weeks on Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 6:30pm. They will be co-taught by Career and Technical Education and Adult Education instructors. They are open to adults with or without a high school diploma; for those without, the classes will also assist in earning a high school equivalency (HSE) diploma. All classes, books, materials, and certification exams (for the ParaPro or ProStart certifications) are free of charge, thanks to funding from the Department of Workforce Development. Registration deadline is February 6. Contact Clausell Harding at the A.K. Smith Career Center, (219) 873-2122, ext. 8705 to register.
