The LaPorte County Judiciary announced today that they have chosen attorney John A. Link of LaPorte to serve as the new Magistrate in LaPorte Superior Court No. 4, replacing retiring Magistrate Nancy Gettinger.

 A lifelong resident of LaPorte, Link has some twenty three years’ experience as a practicing attorney,  the last thirteen years of which he served as a litigation attorney for State Farm Insurance in their Crown Point , Indiana offices.  Previously, Link worked in private practice with firms in LaPorte County and served with the LaPorte County Public Defender’s office where he defended indigent clients facing prosecution on juvenile, misdemeanor and felony charges.

 An active member of the LaPorte community, Link is or has been a member, officer and board member for LaPorte County Habitat for Humaity, LaPorte County Big Brothers/Big Sisters, LaPorte County Teen Court and the Izaak Walton League.  An active member of the LaPorte Presbyterian Church, Link is also a member of the LaPorte County Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association and Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana .

 A graduate of LaPorte High School , Link earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Valparaiso University in 1990 and after a short work stint at Chris Craft and Mono Sol, earned his law degree from Valparaiso University Law School , graduating in 1995.

 As Magistrate in LaPorte Superior Court No. 4, Link will work under the supervision of Judge Greta S. Friedman who indicated that she and her fellow judges selected Link “because of his strong experience in the law and a temperament and disposition that makes him well suited to the rigors and demands of our very active caseload in that court.”
