The Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) and Bliss McKnight, Inc. have named a local fourth grader as the National County Government Week essay contest winner for the AIC’s Northwest District. Madeleine McCarther’s essay was chosen over entries from other fourth graders across the district. McCarther, a student at Saint Stanislaus School, received $100 for winning the contest. One winner was chosen in each of the AIC’s six districts from among several hundred submitted from across the state. This year’s theme was ‘Keeping Indiana Safe: County Law Enforcement.’ Essays were judged on how well students discussed the county’s role in local law enforcement. McCarther was awarded the prize last month during the AIC Northwest District Meeting in Marshall County. The meeting also included a synopsis of the 2018 Indiana General Assembly by AIC legislative staff.
