"Incredibles 2" tops the weekend box office with record-breaking $180 million debut

Disney(LOS ANGELES) — Disney/Pixar’s Incredibles 2 topped the weekend box office with an estimated $180 million debut, beating the previous record for an animated film set by 2016’s Finding Dory.

The sequel to 2004’s The Incredibles — which features the voices of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson and Sophia Bush — delivered the second biggest June opening, behind Universal’s Jurassic World, as well as the eighth largest opening of all time. Disney now owns nine of the top 10 titles in that category.

Overseas, Incredibles 2 earned an estimated $51 million, bringing its worldwide total to around $231.5 million. It has yet to open in several major international markets.

Ocean’s 8 took second place in North America with an estimated $19.5 million.

In third place was Tag — the R-rated comedy starring Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress, Jon Hamm and Jeremy Renner. It grabbed an estimated $14.6 million.

Solo: A Star Wars Story finished in fourth place with an estimated $9.3 million stateside, to go along with $5.2 million internationally. It’s global tally now stands at $339.5 million.

Rounding out the top five was Fox/Marvel’s Deadpool 2, copping an estimated $8.8 million. It tacked on an estimated $9.8 million overseas, bringing it’s worldwide take to just shy of $700 million.

Disney is the parent company of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and ABC News.
