Portage Police say they had a pursuit Monday afternoon. The suspect, a 43 year woman from Lake County was attempting to pass stolen checks at Centier Bank. As the officer arrived the suspect fled north on Willowcreek Road. She drove through the Walgreens parking lot, blowing a tire in the process and then through the city hall parking lot and into the Strack & Van Tils parking lot and then back onto Willowcreek Road. She made a left onto McCasland and lost control when she attempted to turn onto to Swanson Road, which caused her to drive into a resident’s front yard. The suspect continued to flee and Sgt. Keith Hughes attempted a Pit Maneuver, however the suspect steered out of it, but ran out places to drive and then fled on foot. Sgt. Hughes gave chase and ultimately caught her and she was then taken into custody. She has several charges and is a suspect in multiple theft/frauds. No one was hurt by this suspect’s actions/decisions.
