It’s a word many retailers and store managers cringe at. This is because businesses pay the costs of lost merchandise and security-related expenses when shoplifting occurs. The other problem is not understanding the law and how to stop, detain or handle shoplifters.
According to the National Retail Federation, 15% of shoplifting apprehensions lead to violence. This doesn’t mean you should just let it happen, but there are safeguards you should know about to protect yourself and your inventory. As a retailer, you’re already fighting. You win half the battle just to get customers into your store. Making sure they make it out your doors with items they’ve paid for is the other half.
Knowing the answers to these questions can reduce store loss and make you the envy of your competitors. Sounds like a win-win, right?
As we prepare for the fast approaching holiday shopping season your LaPorte County Law Enforcement officials want to educate our retail business community on the “ins and outs” of Shoplifting.
Due to the recent changes with the Theft laws, the Michigan City Police in conjunction with the LaPorte County Prosecutor, The Mayors of Michigan City and LaPorte and our Chamber of Commerences are presenting a FREE open seminar on “Shoplifting”.
