The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office announced they are proud to support a group of New Prairie High School students who recently won a state-wide competition during the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) state-conference in Indianapolis. They have been designated to travel to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida to take part in the international competition and will compete next week. Their winning public service announcement highlights how the community has been affected by the sudden and tragic losses of La Porte High School student-athlete Jake West and New Prairie High School’s Mark Mayfield and how our communities have come together and support each other as a result. Through this short public service announcement, the group is promoting community awareness of heart health and how important it is for a community to be supportive in times of tragedies. We join these students in asking that you support the Play for Jake Foundation as it is hoped to expand the Foundation to be able to screen and educate more people about heart health, as everyone has a heart and anyone can be affected by heart diseases/disorders. In order to do this though, the Foundation needs more funding. We therefore encourage you to go to the Play for Jake Foundation website at .
