Warning on scams for Texas relief efforts
Attorney General Curtis Hill reminds helpful Hoosiers to be vigilant and even skeptical before contributing to relief efforts for Texas residents affected by Hurricane Harvey. The Office of the Indiana Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division (CPD) warns all Hoosiers that the aftermath of a natural disaster is a hotbed for scammers. Any Hoosier with plans to help Texas residents should also take steps to avoid falling victim to scams targeting those who want to help victims. A suggested option is generally to donate through more trusted methods such as well-established organizations’ websites. Further, Hoosiers should not give out any personal information such as bank account or debit and credit card numbers.
