Gabrielle Union reveals infertility struggle: "My body has been a prisoner"
ABC/Image Group LA(LOS ANGELES) — Gabrielle Union is opening up about her struggles with fertility in her new memoir, We’re Going to Need More Wine, writing that, “For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant.”
“I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle,” the Being Mary Jane star says of her struggles with in vitro fertilization in a book excerpt published in People magazine. “I have endured eight failed IVF cycles, with my body constantly bloated from these hormones.”
Union, 44, also reveals that she’s had “eight or nine miscarriages.”
Union says she never wanted children before she married her now-husband, NBA star Dwyane Wade. “Each attempt at IVF is a loving action. So we remain here, bursting with love and ready to do anything to meet the child we’ve both dreamed of,” she writes.
We’re Going to Need More Wine is scheduled to be released October 17.
