"Blade Runner 2049" and "The Mountain Between Us" top this week’s new releases

(LOS ANGELES) — Opening nationwide on Friday:

* Blade Runner 2049 — Ryan Gosling stars as a young android hunting cop — known in the future as a blade runner — whose discovery of a long-buried secret spells chaos for society. The discovery leads him to track down former blade runner Rick Deckard — played by Harrison Ford, reprising his role from the 1982 original — who’s been missing for thirty years. Rated R.

 

The Mountain Between Us — Idris Elba and Kate Winslet star in this adventure film about a pair of strangers, stranded on a snowy mountain after a tragic plane crash, who push each other to survive a perilous journey across the wilderness. Beau Bridges and Dermot Mulroney also star. Rated PG-13.

My Little Pony: The Movie — The Mane 6: Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rarity embark on an epic journey to save Ponyville from a dark force in this animated film, featuring the voices of Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth, Liev Schreiber and Zoe Saldana. Rated PG.

Opening in limited release on Friday:

The Florida Project — This drama follows a precocious six-year-old and her rebellious mother — played by newcomers Brooklynn Prince and Bria Vinaite, respectively — over the course of a single summer. They live week-to-week at “The Magic Castle,” a hotel just outside of Disney World, with a stern, but kind manager portrayed by Willem Dafoe. Rated R.
