A three car crash, Sunday afternoon, involving a Porter County Sheriff deputy, sent all three drivers to the hospital. Preliminary investigation revealed at approximately 4:25 p.m., on 652 North and State Road 149 a Jeep Cherokee, driven by 20 year old Lawrence Caronch, of Valparaiso, was north bound when he saw a large lampshade in the middle of the road (2 lane).  A Subaru Outback, driven by 80 year old Edward Allande of Valparaiso, was behind the Cherokee when both vehicles stopped for the object.  A Ford Explorer (fully marked Porter County Sheriff’s police car), driven by Porter County Sheriff Deputy 37 year old Tim Bell, was behind Allande and failed to see that Allande had stopped his car.  Bell’s Explorer hit the rear of Allande’s Outback, causing the Outback to go forward and hit the rear of the Cherokee.  Allande had to be extricated from his vehicle.  All three drivers were taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso.  Caronch and Bell were treated and released. Allande was taken by ambulance to Rush Hospital in Chicago with a head injury.
