Sylvester Stallone back in the ring for "Creed" sequel
(LOS ANGELES) — On his Instagram account, Sylvester Stallone broke the news that he’s stepping back in the directing ring, going behind the camera for Creed 2, the sequel to the hit spinoff of the Rocky films.
“Looking forward to directing and Producing The incredibly talented Michael B Jordan in CREED 2 next year,” Stallone posted, adding, “One more Round !”
Director Ryan Coogler’s Creed — which starred Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Johnson, the son of Rocky Balboa’s frenemy Apollo Creed — propelled Coogler to A-List director status. The movie earned critical acclaim as well as more than $170 million at the box office.
Coogler went on to helm the upcoming Black Panther, in which Jordan also appears, and will work with him again in the in-development drama Wrong Answer.
Forbes clarifies that Stallone is also writing Creed 2; he was nominated for best original screenplay for the 1976 original Rocky. Stallone earned a best supporting actor Academy Award nomination for his work in Creed, and won a Golden Globe in that category.
