Late Saturday evening, Indiana State Police Detective Gary Runde was contacted by a local police department that they may have information pertaining to the hit and run that occurred on I-80/94 earlier that day. Further investigation showed that a local salvage yard was called to pick up a 2006 dark gray Volkswagen Passat that the owner wanted to scrap. The owner of the car mentioned to the salvage tow truck driver that the car had been involved in a crash. After paying for the car and towing it back to their yard they contacted their local police who contacted ISP. Detective Runde went to the address in Gary where the Passat was towed from and spoke to one of the residents. While Runde was talking to the resident, the owner of the Passat, identified as 27 year old Joshua Davis, of Maywood, Illinois turned himself into Runde as the driver at the time of the fatal. It is believed that the Passat hit the 2002 Explorer and struck 31 year old Nathaniel McIntee of Merrillville while standing outside the Ford on the interstate. Davis is a suspended driver and was taken to Lake County Jail where he was formally charged Monday morning, February 26th, 2018, through the Lake County Prosecutor’s office for Leaving the Scene of a Crash causing Death.
