"Black Panther" threepeats with $65.7 million; tops $500 million domestically

Marvel Studios(LOS ANGELES) — Black Panther grabbed an estimated $65.7 million this weekend, making it just third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to threepeat, behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Avengers. The film also became the third overall to top the $500 million mark here in the States.

The 18th Marvel film also becomes just the third-fastest to cross the $500 million plateau — tied with Jurassic World and right behind Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi — as well as the 10th highest-grossing domestic release of all time.

Overseas, Black Panther earned an estimated $56.2 million, bringing its international totals to $396.6 and its worldwide tally to just under $900 million. Disney is the parent company of Marvel, Lucasfilm and ABC.

In second place was the Jennifer Lawrence thriller Red Sparrow, one of the week’s two new films, delivering an estimated $17 million. The other — Death Wish, starring Bruce Willis — came in third with an estimated $13 million haul.

Game Night, in its second week, took fourth place, earning an estimated $10.7 million.  The CGI animation-live action feature Peter Rabbit rounded out the top five with a $10 million weekend.
