On Monday afternoon, Porter County Sheriff’s Officers responded to a personal injury crash in Pine Township, on the LaPorte/Porter County Line at Burdick Road involving a Porter County Highway truck and a 1989 Oldsmobile passenger car. The driver of the passenger car ran into the back of the stopped County Highway truck, which was filling in pot holes in the roadway. The driver, a 31 year old male from Michigan City, fled on foot from the scene prior to Officers arrival with all of the vehicles paperwork as well as the license plate from his crashed vehicle. Officer Doug Schafer and his K9 partner Fury were called to the scene to assist in locating the subject. K9 Fury tracked the subject to a barn a little over a quarter of a mile north of the accident scene. The male subject refused to comply with the Officer’s orders and had to be apprehended by K9 Fury. The male was transported to Porter Regional Hospital for a dog bite and injuries sustained in the crash. Charges are pending for Leaving the Scene of a Crash B-Misdemeanor, Resisting Law Enforcement A-Misdemeanor and OWI C-Misdemeanor.
