Live-action "Star Wars" series coming to Disney’s new streaming service
ABC/Randy Holmes(HOLLYWOOD) — As if all those planned Star Wars films weren’t enough, you’ll soon be able to visit that galaxy far, far away on your TV or mobile device.
Jon Favreau has been tapped to executive produce and write a new, live-action Star Wars series for Disney’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service. Favreau is already part of the Star Wars universe, having voiced a character in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and a character in the upcoming big screen adventure Solo: A Star Wars Story.
In a statement, Favreau said, “If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
Favreau is currently working on a live-action remake of The Lion King, due next year. The new Star Wars series doesn’t have a release date yet. The streaming service is expected to launch in late 2019.
Star Wars and Lucasfilm are owned by Disney, parent company of ABC News.
